Since our design studio was established in 1944, APA has been a recognized partner and advisor for a large number of public and private institutions.

Our story
APA has been involved in a large number of projects, being new buildings, transformation and retrofitting, both in Denmark and internationally.
The beginning
Alex Poulsen Architects is named after the studio's original founder, Alex Poulsen, who - perhaps by accident - ended up pioneering the planning and design of society-defining buildings.
The studio’s professional heritage, specializing in complex buildings, can be traced back to 1955 when Poulsen was appointed supervising architect by the then Ministry of Justice.
Subsequent owners and managers have since further developed and refined the practice's ability to deliver high-security architecture and specialized consultancy.
80 years of history
For 80 years, Alex Poulsen Architects has distinguished itself as a specialized architectural practice with a focus on complex buildings with high demands on security and safety.
Today, Alex Poulsen Architects is a diverse practice that embraces many professional backgrounds and nationalities. We benefit from our individual backgrounds, making us a versatile architectural practice.
With our many years of experience in high-security architecture, APA possesses special knowledge to advise on solutions within a broad spectrum of new construction, transformation and retrofitting.
Our focus is to identify the uniqueness of the project and, based on this, ensure the aesthetics, logistics, safety and security of the building for all users.
In 2024, the studio marked another milestone by celebrating 80 years in Danish and international architecture. During the same landmark period, the management team was shaken up in the form of a reshuffle in the partner group to help ensure the studio's continued positive momentum.

SOS Children’s Villages Laos
We are proud to support the SOS Children’s Village in Luang Prabang, Laos. Through the Family Strengthening Program which is a targeted initiative focused on providing direct assistance to children and their biological families, we get to help creating a stronger foundation for their well-being and future.
Children in the care of SOS families are nurtured within a supportive family environment, while also being integrated into a broader community. To further support families in the surrounding neighborhoods, the program offers a variety of services aimed at enhancing their well-being and stability.
Sport ‘n’ Charity
Through Sport ‘n’ Charity we are supporting a cause that directly impacts the lives of thousands of children battling cancer.
We recognize the transformative power of sports in improving the lives of young cancer patients. It is crucial for us to contribute to initiatives that help these children regain strength, confidence, and joy through physical activity.
We believe that by coming together, we can create meaningful opportunities for these children, helping them experience a better quality of life during their treatment and beyond. Our contribution is one step toward making a real difference, and we hope it will bring renewed hope and motivation to those who need it most.
