Høje Gladsaxe
The housing development in Høje Gladsaxe was constructed from 1963 to 1966, based on the urban plan by Vilhelm Lauritsen. The project was carried out by a consortium consisting of Hoff & Windinge, Jørgen Juul Møller, Kai Agentoft, and Alex Poulsen as architects. Landscaping and garden design were done by Sven Hansen, Morten Klint, and Andreas Bruun, in a joint studio formed by the following three architectural firms: APA, Hoff & Windinge, and Juul, Møller & Agentoft.

An icon of its time
The project is based on the concept of the "living machine," inspired by Le Corbusier's public housing, Unité d'Habitation. At the time of construction, Høje Gladsaxe was the most modern housing development and the most advanced prefabricated building in Denmark. Høje Gladsaxe is an icon of industrialized housing and is beautifully situated on a ridge in the landscape, surrounded by green areas.
The building has been awarded by Gladsaxe Municipality and is now part of the municipality's architectural heritage.
Detailing
The slender geometric forms and white concrete of the residential blocks illustrate the architectural trends of the time. The project is therefore an example of the 'International Style' and modernism.
A prominent building
In the 1960s, the ideal was that a housing development should contain everything from institutions to laundries and shops. The idea was for the building to function as a kind of living factory.
2,000 apartments are gathered in five blocks, located near a busy access road. The Høje Gladsaxe shopping center, which is an integral part of the housing area's plan, is also situated here. On the opposite side, residents have views over a large green common area with institutions and a community center.
