Løvgaarden

Løvgaarden is a historic rental property, built by architect Peter Chr. Nielsen in the years 1934-35. With respect for the building's original details, materials, overall architecture, and inherent potential, Løvgaarden's 285 apartments and 15 commercial units have undergone continuous extensive renovation of both interior and exterior building parts and elements. To ensure socially responsible housing, user involvement with input from future tenants has been a priority during the design phase of each apartment's renovation.

An icon of its time

The project is based on the concept of the "living machine," inspired by Le Corbusier's public housing, Unité d'Habitation. At the time of construction, Høje Gladsaxe was the most modern housing development and the most advanced prefabricated building in Denmark. Høje Gladsaxe is an icon of industrialized housing and is beautifully situated on a ridge in the landscape, surrounded by green areas.
The building has been awarded by Gladsaxe Municipality and is now part of the municipality's architectural heritage.

Roof restoration

Among the major works, there has been a complete window replacement on the property, a roof renovation with the replacement of the roof and underlay, as well as the replacement of light facade sections.
Attic spaces have been converted and transformed into floor area for the property's penthouse apartments.

Natural light & atmosphere

When incorporating attic spaces, suitable skylights and roof terraces have been added to each residence. These were implemented to ensure pleasant natural light in each room and to connect the individual units across floors.

Digitization

As a subtask, Alex Poulsen Architects has been responsible for digitizing the entire property. Historical drawings, documents, and photographs were used as the basis to achieve the most accurate digital representation. The digitization was carried out in both 2D and 3D.
