Jyderup - New Women's Prison

APA is the lead consultant for Denmark’s first women's prison.
Jyderup Prison is being converted into a women's prison. Construction is set to begin in early 2020, and the project has just been put out to tender. The fundamental idea behind transforming Jyderup Prison into a women's prison is primarily to create a safe environment for female inmates during their sentences. Female offenders and detainees are currently either placed in the same units as male inmates or serve their sentences in separate women’s units within institutions that also house male inmates. This poses a risk that the traditional prison setup may compromise the safety of women. Therefore, modernizing and future-proofing incarceration for female inmates is one of the focus areas in the Danish Prison and Probation Service’s multi-year agreement for 2018-2021. Women's prisons are standard practice in our neighboring countries of Norway, Sweden, and Germany.
