Topping-Out Ceremony at Ringe Prison

28.09.2023

On Wednesday, September 6, an important milestone was marked in the expansion of Ringe Prison.

Ringe Prison is a very special facility that was designed by Alex Poulsen Architects in the mid-1970s. With its contemporary architecture, the prison introduced entirely new frameworks for the correctional principles of the time, which emphasized community among inmates and relationships between prison staff and inmates.

Now, about 50 years later, we have once again been given the opportunity to leave our mark on the prison, and we are proud of it.

We have focused on preserving and highlighting the architectural character that defines Ringe Prison, and we believe we have succeeded in finding the right balance between references to the existing prison and contemporary requirements for both building design and correctional conditions.

However, the project is far from complete; several months of construction still lie ahead, during which we must maintain momentum to ensure that Ringe Prison continues to serve the community well for the next 50 years.

Alex Poulsen Architects would like to take this opportunity to thank the Correctional Services' client unit and the users at Ringe Prison for a good and trusting collaboration. We also extend a big thank you to our partners at Viborg Engineers and Molter Consult. Last but not least, thank you to Guldfeldt for their significant efforts in realizing the project.
