Cultural heritage

AIRE Ancient Baths are renowned for their seamless integration into historically significant settings, and the Copenhagen location is no exception. Bathers enter through an atmospheric main entrance, hidden beneath the Ny Carlsberg arches, just steps from the iconic Elephant Gate. This distinctive arrival experience emphasizes the rich cultural heritage embedded in the project.

A sensory journey

The design of the spatial progression within AIRE is carefully curated to heighten sensory and atmospheric experiences. A sequence of varied spaces, enhanced by dim and candle lighting and exposed original structural elements, fosters an immersive ambiance of luxury and tranquillity. The interplay of light, shadow, and raw materiality creates an environment that encourages deep relaxation and introspection.

Architecture of sensuality

The unique character of AIRE Ancient Baths is reflected in the diverse thermal experiences, each requiring distinct spatial configurations and moods. The historic structural framework of Maltmagasinet naturally accommodated many of these variations, shaping the design process. The construction of varied pool depths, combined with the absence of wall openings, facilitated an extensive excavation and transformation phase, seamlessly integrating the new functions into the existing fabric of the building.

AIRE Ancient Baths in Copenhagen is a testament to the harmony between historic preservation and contemporary wellness, offering a refined, immersive experience that pays homage to both architecture and the art of relaxation.
